Reboot Reaches Far Beyond California: MOOCs vs. Education Excellence

Time: January 30, 2013 from 12pm to 1pm, PST
Location: CCCConfer
Organized By: Open Doors Group
Event Description:
On January 8 a unique event occurred in southern California: Academics, Commercial Education Providers, Government Leaders, Press Professionals and other thought leaders convened, and sometimes clashed, on the question of automation as a solution to the burgeoning costs of higher education for taxpayers and students. In this session we will summarize, analyze, and discuss the presentations and confrontations that occurred at Reboot California. Highlights of the January 8 event: * Clash between MOOC providers and faculty representatives * Student panel announcing that units are the new currency * Straighterline – a non-accredited for-profit company providing much-needed college units at a rock-bottom price * Western Governors University, Learning Counts, and other innovative organizations * Darrell Steinberg, Jeff Selingo, Gavin Newsom, and other leaders * Special 2-hour faculty-only session led by CMU CLI
